Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva reacts during a press conference at the party headquarters on July 27, 2016. Under the EC-sponsored organic bill governing political parties, political parties would be dissolved on one condition: if they did not contest an election. The Democrat leader said he disagrees with the proposal because political parties have the right to contest or boycott an election. According to Mr Abhisit, the EC set up and maintained a database of members of political parties to prevent duplicated memberships. The National Reform Steering Assembly's political reform panel earlier suggested the Interior Ministry be brought in to help oversee national elections.
